Picaboo vs Blurb Photo Books Comparison

Picaboo vs Blurb Photo Books Comparison

Nowadays there is a very visible trend going on: different solution providers are moving their services to the cloud, slowly cutting downloadable software out of the market. However, you might have noticed that moving to the cloud does not necessarily equal better services. In fact, some companies have kept the downloadable versions to satisfy the expectations of customers who want a bit more advanced solution. That is the case of Blurb, a photo book builder that has two versions: a simpler online editor for quick works and full-fledged editing software for professionals. And now this solution is facing Picaboo, which provides its decent services via a browser editor only.

But which is the better: Picaboo, the online editor with all necessary features and more? Or Blurb with a simpler and an advanced solution? This article will help you pick a winner, hopefully ending this debate once and for all.

Overview comparison for Picaboo Photo Books, Blurb Photo Books

Picaboo

Picaboo is a simple, but decent web browser-only editor with a few good surprises up its sleeves. Your photos can be uploaded from various sources (for later use as well) and can not only be auto-filled into your book, but auto-fitted to their respective frames as well. If you want to make further adjustments, you can always change the brightness and saturation of the pictures, add extra photo holders and insert texts or funny stickers. To ensure your book is sent to the printers without defaults, Picaboo has built-in warnings like the safety zone and the spell-checker.

Picaboo Photo Books

Photo books can be built from scratch or using over 70 preset themes, 26 of which are created for layflat books, called Seamless Lay-Flat books. Speaking of the latter, there are 4 categories in total: the aforementioned one, Premium Mini Books, Classic Books (the most popular one with layflat upgrade included) and Prestige. The 5 sizes, 2 shapes and 3 covers are divided between these 4 categories with Classic Books providing the biggest freedom regarding cover-size pairing. All books, and especially shipping, have very good prices that can be further reduced by the countless coupons and promotions including discounts for bulk orders, referring friends and buying gift certificates.

Blurb

In Blurb you have two options to create your 20–440 page-long books: Bookify, the online editor, and BookWright, the downloadable software. Bookify is perfect for those who’d like to create their photo books in a basic manner while having some state-of-the-art features like auto-save, safe zones etc. too. But if you want to truly use the potential of Blurb, choose BookWright instead as it is a professional editing solution – and not just for photo books. The software not only has all features of Bookify, but it can also import projects created in the online version while providing all design, layout options and advanced features like real text boxes, spell-checking and a price estimator.

Your books can be printed in 5 (quite unusual) sizes, 3 shapes with 3 covers, but you can turn your creations into eBooks too. Even though the modest pricing is a hue pro, Blurb’s biggest advantage is the fast processing and shipping time which only takes two weeks tops. As for customer support, Blurb performs in a decent manner by providing video tutorials, free webinars, experts’ support in case you have problems with using the editor(s) and a nice bulk order discount on every product.

Conclusion

No matter which photo book builder is more sympathetic to you; both of these solutions are optimal choices if you want an editor that does the job quickly and perfectly. Basically, you only have to decide whether you stay online or go for downloadable software.

Picaboo is a decent online editor in which you can make the most important adjustments to your photos and further customize your books regarding embellishments, covers, papers, sizes and such. You also have safety features making sure only the best-quality products will leave the printing-house of the company. Blurb provides two options for you: the simpler Bookify, which is recommended for quick photo book building, and the more advanced downloadable software, BookWright, a true editing solution. However, both versions can turn your photo books into eBooks and they both allow users to fill a book with up to a record amount of 440 pages.
