NordLayer Intelligence by NordStellar is a browser-based platform for businesses to monitor external threats, investigate cybersecurity incidents, and assess security risks.

Setup starts with adding domains, IP addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and custom dark web keywords. After adding a domain, the platform can automatically identify related subdomains, email addresses, and IP addresses. If needed, companies that only want to monitor verified users can turn email autodiscovery off.

Administrators can create separate projects for different departments or security areas and assign different role-based access controls to determine who can manage each project.

Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, and Okta integrations keep employee lists monitored and aligned with company directories. Active employees are synced daily, and larger organizations can import selected Entra ID groups rather than their entire workforce.

Once assets are added, NordLayer Intelligence monitors them for:

• leaked data
• dark web mentions
• domain impersonation
• attack surface vulnerabilities

Alerts and notifications can be customized by event type and severity, then delivered through email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, generic webhooks, or SIEM platforms.

The platform has a futuristic interface that, despite the amount of information displayed, is easy to navigate. Dashboard modules, graphics, and charts summarize unresolved events, average resolution times, incident severity, leaked data, domain squatting, and vulnerabilities.

It’s important to mention that NordLayer Intelligence has no mobile app, and its website isn’t optimized for smartphones. However, urgent alerts still reach mobile devices through easy integrations. Since detailed investigations are better suited to a desktop anyway, this is only a minor drawback.

NordLayer Intelligence lists threats in the Events tab. Findings can be filtered by event type, asset, severity, tags, and status, while columns are customizable, and incidents can be assigned to team members.

Each event comes with a description, severity rating, impact details, CVSS2 and CVSS3 scores, and remediation guidance. Team members can also add notes, check the event history, and mark an incident with different statuses, including open, under investigation, resolved, and false positive.

The Leaked Data area separates identity monitoring from individual incidents. In the Identity tab, breaches and compromised credentials are grouped by employee, so it’s easy to see who needs attention and assign follow-up tasks.

The Incidents tab covers malware infections, data breaches, and combo lists. Malware findings can distinguish corporate from personal credentials, display execution paths, and help determine whether an infected device belongs to the company or an employee.

It’s important to mention that personal credentials can be hidden or revealed using a privacy control. Companies decide whether to enable access and are responsible for obtaining any required employee consent.

Combo lists highlight known username and password pairings, while related-event links show when the same breach data has appeared across multiple sources.

The Consumers tab monitors customers and other external users of a company’s public-facing services. It’s a useful addition for businesses concerned about account takeovers.

NordStellar’s dark web search works like a search engine for hidden and criminal online sources. It covers forums, Telegram posts, ransomware blogs, marketplaces, and other locations where stolen data or company mentions may appear.

There’s no limit on keywords, so users can search for mentions of contractors, competitors, executives, brands, or anything else relevant. Searches can then be saved as monitoring rules with custom alerts.

We loved that forums and marketplace findings include a screenshot of the post with the respective leaked data.

Domain squatting detection identifies websites that may be impersonating the company. Findings can include screenshots, hosting information, registrant details, and other evidence needed to assess the threat.

Security and legal teams can then use this information to investigate phishing pages, fake domains, and other attempts to misuse your organization’s identity.

NordLayer Intelligence by NordStellar’s Brand Protection add-on expands domain monitoring through a partnership with Fishport. You can request takedowns for infringing domains, phishing sites, fake social media accounts, and fraudulent app store listings across the dark web and regular internet.

Fishport typically completes takedowns in one to three days, which can be considerably faster than handling reports independently. The service is sold separately in takedown packages and requires contacting NordLayer Intelligence for a quote.

The add-on is most useful for established brands that are impersonated frequently, as the platform can both identify the threat and help remove it.

NordLayer Intelligence also includes attack surface management tools for finding weaknesses across a company’s public infrastructure.

The surface area maps an organization’s external digital footprint, including web applications, DNS records, networks, IP addresses, SSL certificates, technologies, and domains. Having everything in one view makes it easier to spot risks. It’s particularly useful for smaller businesses that don’t have a separate ASM tool.

Scans can run automatically on a schedule and use customizable templates. Available checks include browser-based security scans, web fuzzing and injection testing, email spoofing detection, DNS vulnerability scans, and HTTP subdomain takeover detection.

Companies can choose which assets to scan and run regular checks, such as weekly, to detect changes in their external exposure. Detected vulnerabilities are color-coded by severity and include descriptions explaining the issue and its potential impact.

Similarly to leaked data, NordLayer Intelligence by Nordstellar also provides remediation guidance here, so teams know how to address each weakness. The severity labels make it easier to prioritize findings, although less experienced users may still need help with more complex vulnerabilities.

NordLayer Intelligence includes good reporting capabilities. You can create reports for malware infections, data breaches, combo lists, domain-squatting permutations, and attack surface vulnerabilities.

Its MCP and SIEM (e.g. Crowdstrike, Microsoft Sentinel and Splunk) integration also connects platform data to compatible paid AI tools, allowing users to ask natural-language questions about unresolved threats and exposed credentials. The AI connection can generate summaries and reports for teams or executives. A prompt playbook is also available for anyone unsure how to phrase security queries.

Other integrations include Slack, Microsoft Teams, and generic webhooks for real-time alerts.

Plus, companies with existing monitoring platforms can access NordLayer Intelligence threat intelligence through an Enterprise API and use its dark web data in their own monitoring and response tools.
