ICSS – short for Investing in Care, Safety and Security – is a medical alert company based in Bermuda and is widely-known for their Medipendant product that has brought peace of mind to local seniors. Although the company’s aim is to give elderly residents the chance to age in place, they aren’t the only audience of ICSS. As a matter of fact, the company’s personal emergency devices are favored by children who must travel alone to school as well as patients with mobility problems. In November 2017 ICSS unveiled their latest addition to its medical alert system family: the iHelp+ 3G. Manufactured by Digicel & BTC, it’s a fully mobile pendant with an emergency button on it. The lightweight pendant, made from a durable rubbery material, dons a stylish look while the large button is positioned in such a way that the user’s finger can instantly find it. The device additionally features a 72-hour battery life that can be charged on a separate station.
The button incorporates all necessary features for saving the wearer’s life. It houses a set of gyroscopes and sensors, for instance, therefore the pendant is capable of detecting whether the person has collapsed. After a distress signal is sent – whether manual or autonomous – the company’s operator will contact the owner through the pendant’s speakers. However, communication between the two are not one-way as the pendant’s built-in microphone allows seniors to respond, too.
What makes the iHelp+ a convenient personal alert solution is that it’s constantly connected to a 3G cellular network. This way the button is not only mobile and wireless but it also opens up possibilities for other features such as an in-built GPS that determines the user’s location, therefore helping the emergency services to find the senior wherever they are. What’s even better is that family members can set up a geo-fence around the house, and with this feature enabled they will receive a notification the instant the elderly steps outside this digital boundary.
Both ICSS and Digicel & BTC are satisfied with their current partnership. Naomi Staines, ICSS relationship manager at Digicel & BTC, said that they seek to participate in projects that make communities safer and better, also praising the product for filling an important gap in the market.
To celebrate the introduction of their newest gem, ICSS decided to sell the pendant (plus the charger and accessories) at a discounted price of $199 for the first 100 customers. Once the special promotional offer ends, seniors can choose between one of two versions. However, the monitoring fee will still remain the same at $70 per month.
iHelp+ isn’t the only option for the aging residents of the Bermuda Island, though. In fact, popular medical alert system companies like Bay Alarm Medical and Medical Guardian serve customers residing in Bermuda as well. Both companies offer mobile applications that are not only handy substitutes to their respective physical buttons but are also available for a more affordable monthly fee. While the solutions of Bay Alarm Medical and Medical Guardian lack a geo-fencing feature, it’s only a matter of time before this is integrated into their services as well. Besides, a bit of competition and more options to choose from are always beneficial for the customer…
