Overview comparison for myhosting VPS, HostGator VPS

Services and infrastructure

In terms of their infrastructure and reliability, myhosting.com and HostGator.com’s VPS service are nearly identical. Both offer you a 100% uptime guarantee for your website and will compensate you for brief service interruptions. Both use state of the art hardware including HVAC units and power generators to ensure that their guarantee will work, as well as redundant network protections for your data.

The only substantial difference between these two services in regards to infrastructure is that myhosting promises that its physical security is just as strict as its network security, while HostGator boasts a guaranteed a 20mbit connection and multiple bandwidth providers to keep service going even if one of their ISPs has a failure. In regards to file backups, HostGator’s backups are instantaneous and automatic, while myhosting offers manual file backups through an option in its control panel.

Support

Both services offer support for unlimited domains, but myhosting offers one free domain name while HostGator asks a $15 fee. Both support MySQL databases, but myhosting is slightly friendlier to web developers by also supporting PostgreSQL and MSSQL. Both services support ZenCart and Cube Cart for e-commerce, but only HostGator offers support for osCommerce, and only myhosting offers support for Magento.

Pricing

The real distinction between these two services is in regards to their pricing and service packages. myhosting’s VPS hosting is available in Linux ($15.95/month) or Windows ($24.95/month), while HostGator is only available in Linux ($19.95/month). myhosting’s base plan includes 300 GB bandwidth, 25 GB storage, and 1,024 MB of RAM. These options can be incrementally increased up to a maximum of 1,200 GB bandwidth and 80 GB storage, but available RAM is fixed at 1,024 MB.

HostGator VPS offers nine “levels” of service ranging from 348 MB of RAM, 10 GB storage, and 250 GB bandwidth, to 4,435 MB of RAM, 231 GB storage, and 3,150 GB bandwidth. The prices of both services incrementally rise as you require more hosting resources, but both end up costing around $200 per month at most.

In short, myhosting is a great option for users who want Windows hosting, aren’t in need of much dedicated RAM, and are satisfied with their availability of bandwidth options. HostGator is ideal for users who know precisely how much power their website will need, and can appropriately adjust their “level” of service to get the best deal possible.

Customer service

HostGator offers live chat, website ticketing, e-mail, fax, video tutorials, and 24/7/365 managed hosting for all users who are at least on level three of their service ($39.95/month). On the other hand, MyHosting offers 24/7 telephone support, live chat, and e-mail support for all customers along with promising a one-hour response time for all e-mails.
