MyFax vs MetroFax Comparison

MyFax vs MetroFax Comparison

By Zoltán G.Zoltán G. Verified by Adam B.Adam B. Last updated: August 4, 2024 (0)

Nowadays there are many good online faxing services, so selecting the right one is quite the challenge. But when two services are perfectly identical to one another, that choice may even become downright impossible. However, there are a few instances where one of the services has the upper hand from the very beginning – and this is exactly the case with MyFax and MetroFax, two online faxing solutions by j2 Global.

On the surface both services are exactly the same, but there are certain elements that make one of them an undeniable winner. The question is, which of the two siblings is the best?

Overview comparison for MyFax, MetroFax

MyFax

MyFax is an interesting case, because at first glance it may not seem like too good a service. Quite the contrary, however, since subscribing to any of the MyFax pricing plans will allow users to enjoy a service with which sending and receiving faxes is like child’s play.

For starters, all faxes are automatically forwarded to the user’s default email address, which can also be used to send out faxes without the need to access the online faxing manager. But using the manager, however, is actually even better due to its simple and straightforward interface and advanced features like the categorization of faxes based on tags and/or custom-made folders. And if that’s not enough, there is the option to adjust the quality of outgoing fax messages and to send a single fax to up to 50 people at the same time.

Although MyFax is indeed a trustworthy online faxing service, it sadly feels like something of a third wheel when compared to its siblings, eFax and MetroFax. And asking $40 a month for only 800 free pages in total or limiting the 3-day free trial to the smallest annual subscription definitely won’t help the case of MyFax either.

MetroFax

Even though MetroFax is another j2 Global solution providing exactly the same features as MyFax – even down to the iOS and Android apps, too – it still has some major differences over its related service that are all worthy of your consideration.

The first and perhaps biggest difference is that MetroFax comes with a downloadable desktop faxing client, MetroFax Messenger. This software is not only capable of performing everything that the service’s online fax manager can, but it also has many advanced features as well, from adding electronic signatures to faxes and importing contacts directly from Microsoft Office Outlook to scanning documents for faxing and customizing the cover page to your liking.

The other difference is in the pricing, which is one of the main reasons to opt for MetroFax to begin with. For starters, the cheapest plan comes with 500 free fax pages in total and costs only $7.95 per month, a price that can be reduced to just $6.63 per month if you decide to go for the annual subscription. Even the highest plan is worth its price – especially for small businesses – since it provides 2,500 free pages for approximately $30 per month on an annual subscription. And if that’s not convincing enough, all plans come with a sweet 3-day free trial.

Conclusion

This is one of the few instances where the winner of a comparison is a no-brainer: MetroFax. Not only is it a simple and straightforward solution providing everything that you’ll need to send and receive faxes with ease, but it also has some pretty innovative extras like the option to fax from email accounts, the downloadable MetroFax Messenger software or the dedicated iOS and Android apps. And to put the icing on the cake, MetroFax has great value for money, too, providing its services for less than $7 a month.

But, in all honesty, MyFax shouldn’t be written off either since it can still perform the most important fax-related tasks that individuals and SMBs are usually looking for. And even if MetroFax is undoubtedly the better choice where the feature set and value for money are concerned, picking either of these online faxing solutions are at least safe choices, providing long-lasting customer satisfaction.
