Millionaire Mate is the place where beautiful women and well-off men meet. It’s been in business since 1996, and over the last few decades has been able to gather more than 700,000 users. Although it’s possible to have an account without providing much information, Millionaire Mate ensures profiles are real by offering a verification mark to people who verify their ID, career, and income. It’s possible to contact matches by sending them a ‘wink’ or a message, or users can just join one of the many chat rooms. While using Millionaire is completely free, a paid subscription is needed to get the full extent of the service.

Millionaire Mate is available worldwide, and contrary to what we thought contains a wide variety of users. While it focuses on the sugar daddy and sugar baby kind of relationships, it has developed a more general audience over the course of its existence.

Millionaire Mate interface

Finding profiles is rather easy, and users can follow their preferences on the cupid tab. It’s possible to filter by gender, sexuality, age, location, race, body type, and marital status. These are only the very basics, so users will have to spend some time visiting profiles to find the right match.

Getting Started

Setting up an account is straightforward and takes around five minutes. Besides adding an email account and password, users just need to add simple information such as race, body type, sexual orientation, and marital status. After that, Millionaire Mate prompts new users to share a small introduction for their profile. We were surprised to see that the website offers some guidelines to help people write compelling bits of text, as well as an instant profile writer. The latter already has an introduction written, and users only need to change some parts through a drop-down menu. Unfortunately, there’s a bug where the button to add text doesn’t work. Nevertheless, users can set up their profile this way, and then copy the content.

Users are then prompted to the validation menu, where things get a bit confusing. First, users need to add a photograph, which then takes up to three days to be verified. This seems okay, but it’s impossible to continue the process of verifying your ID and income. Instead, users are sent back to the main page, and only after the photo has been verified can they advance to the validation process. Moreover, we’re not sure how the photo validation process works since we submitted a cartoon instead of a photo, and it passed.

Matching System

When logging into Millionaire Mate, the website opens to the main page where singles can start browsing through profiles. The first tab displays new matches, but members can also check for who’s online, members near them, and VIP users. Still on the main page, there’s a space reserved for popular members, where it’s possible to find the most popular photos, videos, albums, and members.

The matching system only takes into consideration what is chosen in the cupid preferences. In other words, it doesn’t consider people’s interests or personality, even though there’s a personality test that members can take.

Though it’s true that there are more than 700,000 members signed up, the number of active members is not even a fraction of that. We’ve logged in at different hours over several days, and there were only a couple of members online. To further prove our suspicions, even popular members only get a few dozen likes and comments.

Communication

There are multiple ways to show people you are attracted to them. When a user scrolls over a profile, a window pops up. Users can start slowly by sending a flirt, or go full-force by sending a friend request or a message. It’s also possible to add members to your “hotlist” that you can later use to visit interesting profiles or start a conversation.

There aren’t any mobile applications for Millionaire Mate. However, there is a mobile-optimized website that works well enough. It doesn’t offer as much as the website itself though, and it’s a bit harder to use. Instead of prompting users to the main page, Millionaire Mate sends mobile users to a landing page to upgrade to one of the paid plans. Of course, users can then browse through the rest of the website, but it doesn’t offer as many ways to search for possible dates. On mobile, people can only do searches through their criteria, and that’s it. Furthermore, it’s impossible to add to the “hotlist” or send a “wink” right away. Instead, users have to visit the profile first, which can only be done with a paid subscription.

Regardless of whether you’re accessing the website from a mobile or a desktop, the site does feel outdated, and some bugs need to be fixed. While we understand that we’re talking about a website that has been kicking for a long time, we still believe it’s time for a huge update.

Pricing

Anyone can become a Millionaire Mate member for free, although it comes with various limitations. Freemium users cannot message or even visit other users. It’s therefore impossible to be an active member and break the ice yourself. Instead, users enjoying a free account can only answer messages sent to them or go to one of the chat rooms available to everyone.

There are two different tiers that users can opt for: Silver and Gold. Silver members can view and contact profiles, show up higher in searches, access members’ recorded intro videos, and get 24/7 phone support. However, users that go for the Gold subscription show up at the top of searches, gain full access to recorded intro videos, and can also access members’ ICQ, AIM, YIM, and MSN IDs. There is only one payment option – monthly subscription – and the price is $35.95 for the Silver package and $44.95 for Gold.

Aside from a subscription, users can still enable free users to contact them by paying $19.90 per month or highlight their profile on searches and message inboxes. The latter costs $9.90 per month ($8.90 with the quarterly billing cycle).

Last but not least, there’s also a coin system: users can get coins by buying them or by completing challenges. These coins can be used to send virtual gifts or get access to premium features such as sending a couple of messages.

While there is a contact link in the help center, it sends users to a white page. Free users can only use the FAQ to find answers. On the bright side, the FAQ meticulously explains all the features Millionaire Mate has to offer. Paid users get treated to 24/7 phone assistance. There is a Facebook account, but apart from the profile and cover photos uploaded in 2014, there is no activity whatsoever. Therefore, even though the messenger is open and members can send messages, the probability of getting a response is close to none.

Bottom Line

Millionaire Mate offers enough features to be a popular dating website. However, since it’s not being updated, it falls flat nowadays. Not only are there few active members, but users will also face some bugs while browsing through the site. The company could also improve its matching engine. Since there are already personality tests that members can take, we believe that Millionaire Mate could use the results to match people. This way, users would be more confident that they would fit with interesting profiles before reaching out. For the time being, there are just too many dating apps that can do it better than Millionaire Mate, even for people looking for a sugar daddy or sugar baby relationship. Hopefully, the developers will update the website soon enough to become as popular again as it once was.
