MacCleanse vs CleanMyMac Comparison

MacCleanse vs CleanMyMac Comparison

When your Mac is running slow chances are it needs a clean, or is it that it needs a cleanse instead? It’s difficult to tell which Mac optimization software is right for you, especially when they have similar names like MacCleanse and CleanMyMac. Our first option is MacCleanse made by Koingo Software, it’s an efficient and fast system cleaner but isn’t very well-known. Then we have CleanMyMac developed by MacPaw, with a host of great features, sleek design, and a reputation for being one of the best in the business.

MacCleanse

Giving your Mac a deep cleanse will remove all the years of hidden files and apps that refuse to go away. That’s where MacCleanse comes in, it might not be the prettiest software around, but MacCleanse features excellent scanning capabilities that leave plenty of room for customization by users. The software also lets your view your results after completion, so you don’t inadvertently delete a crucial file from your operating system. You’ll be able to find types of files that are easily forgotten about like old archives files, discover duplicated files, or find out which large and old files are taking up space. The language removal tool is a handy extra that means you can remove pointless extra language files you don’t speak that in total fill up a large amount of space on your disk.

MacCleanse offers some limited customer support through its email form but does have a large FAQ section and sufficient user guides. There is no free version available for MacCleanse but there is a 15-day free trial for you to test out all of the functions without any limitations.

CleanMyMac

If you’d rather a clean than a cleanse, then the popular service CleanMyMac is one of the industry leaders and with good reason too. CleanMyMac is loaded with features including malware removal and gets rid of your browsing history and online activity logs for increased privacy. Not only that CleanMyMac is one of the most well-designed and best-looking optimizers, gone are the clunky menus and ugly grey shades as they’re replaced by a colorful and intuitive interface. Cleaning up the system gets rid of unnecessary system files and CleanMyMac is also able to reduce excess space taken up by iTunes, Mail, and your photo library.

Like rivals MacCleanse, CleanMyMac’s customer support is limited to an email form and all the information you need on how to run the software is to be found in the FAQ or knowledge base. Unfortunately, there isn’t a trial available to test out all the features but there is a free version of CleanMyMac however, it only allows you to erase 500 MBs of data, which is going to be insufficient for the majority of users.

Conclusion

It’s difficult to choose between two very similar pieces of software. Certainly, CleanMyMac is the more polished of the two with a larger number of overall features and a far better aesthetic. However, MacCleanse is no slouch and it has unique functions that set it apart like its language removal tool. There is one other difference between the two, the price tag, an annual license for CleanMyMac is $39.95 a year compared to the $30 a year you’ll pay with MacCleanse. So, it depends whether you want to make a saving or pay more for some extra features.
