Hide.me vs HideMyAss Comparison

Hide.me vs HideMyAss Comparison

By Tamás Ő.Tamás Ő. Verified by Sander D.Sander D. Last updated: August 20, 2024 (0)

Hide and seek is a great game, but this article is not necessarily about how these two Virtual Private Network (VPN) providers can give you a great amount of privacy online. Needless to say, both Hide.me and HideMyAss fulfill this purpose very well; but with time, they introduced features into their repertoire that transcend this basic VPN function of “hiding you”. Incidentally, both are connected to anonymous virtual travel. HideMyAss, with an impressive selection of locations, and Hide.me, with just general great quality and advanced utility. The former has grown to be one of the most well-respected services today, while Hide.me specialized, and satisfies those with more specific tastes. Thus, here stands a comparison of the two.

Overview comparison for Hide.me, HMA VPN

Hide.me

Hide.me is – with a little bit of overstatement – the traveler’s VPN service. The company proudly advertises how they offer a good selection of security protocols, each with its own intended use. PPTP is not that recommended (by us at least), but L2TP and IPsec are suitable for mobile devices, while OpenVPN is there for those more interested in high security. SSTP is more of a general-purpose solution. Out of these, IPsec is the one that Hide.me emphasizes, as they offer both the IKEv1 and IKEv2 variants, creating a lot of choices for you to work with. All servers support all of these protocols.

Hide.me also has free proxies for you to enjoy. On their website, you can enable yourself proxies for either the United States, the Netherlands or Germany. These are three contested and popular countries for streaming, and this offer is welcome. For software, you get apps for both Android and iOS, and a client for Windows. You can also make use of the free forever trial version of the company, though it has a 2GB data cap on it instead of time restrictions. Pricewise, the monthly plan costs $5.42 at best, but the Premium offer is less affordable, with $11.67 per month.

HideMyAss

HideMyAss probably has the most extensive list of locations of any VPN company. There is a bit of absurdity here though. The official website advertises itself as having access to “221 countries”. The problem is that there are not this many sovereign states on the planet today, even with disputed territories. Furthermore, there are some countries that HideMyAss does not provide access to, like Chad, Mongolia or Pakistan (and others). Meanwhile, locations like the British Virgin Islands (which is a part of the UK – a British overseas territory – and not a sovereign entity) are listed as countries. Therefore, the overall number is somewhere around 180, which is still a lot, lot more than most other companies’ resources.

HideMyAss, being one of the best services today, has other great benefits. For instance, this is probably the only company that effectively has two months of tryout time. First, you can sign up for the 30-day risk-free trial of HideMyAss by making use of the company’s money back guarantee. And the prices themselves are not that bad, either. While one month is a standard $9.99, the annual plan only costs $4.99 per month, which is great for such a complete VPN service.

Conclusion

Overall, Hide.me and HideMyAss are both proficient in what they do. Beyond offering the protection you need, there are different areas of service they specialize in. For HideMyAss, this is appealing to the widest audience possible. The greatest testament to this is the massive number of countries you can connect to. Regardless of them being probably leased, it is an impressive feat. For Hide.me, it is the utility options you should consider. Few companies offer port forwarding or five simultaneous connections, but Hide.me is one of them. Opposite tastes, but the same concept – both of them are worthy buys in their own right.
