Created in 2014, GOOSE VPN is a relatively new service coming straight from the Netherlands, offering its VPN services mainly for computers and mobile devices in English and Dutch only. Despite being very appealing and easy to use with a solid and simple interface, it is clear that GOOSE VPN is still taking its first steps, therefore it still has some teething troubles compared to the more established old-timers of the market. However, that’s not such bad news, as this is a VPN service with strong potential that needs minor polishing to grow and become a better and more complete service. Nonetheless, GOOSE VPN definitely already has some sweet features under the hood, with some quite interesting curiosities too.

As we mentioned before, GOOSE VPN is still in its infancy and tries to find its place in the already crowded VPN world. The company clearly tries to appeal to those who haven’t tried VPN before by offering a simple service without any super tech-savvy exclusive features that can be quite tricky to master if your experience with VPNs isn’t the greatest. However, there are still some aspects worth your attention which helps this VPN company stand out from the rest.
Let’s cut to the chase: one of the main reasons many people get a VPN is simply because of torrenting. With that in mind, GOOSE VPN will surely make torrent users happy, as there are a handful of servers in key locations dedicated to that purpose – despite having a server network that is not very extensive to begin with. This is a huge advantage over other opponents, because they usually offer only one lone Peer-to-Peer (P2P ) server or they even don’t support such feature at all at all, especially young services like this. In fact, from our experience VPNs add P2P later once their service has started to grow.
Furthermore, since GOOSE VPN is still quite unknown, it can easily bypass basic geo-blockers, which is especially useful if you want to access popular websites like Netflix.
Curiously, GOOSE VPN lets you choose the protocol you prefer for every server you want to connect to; however, there are only two choices regarding the number of servers, which we’ll cover later on in this review. You can go for the faster or the more secure one, meaning that your internet speed highly depends on the chosen server.
This might seem not that big of a deal at first, but it’s indeed yet another extra little detail that GOOSE VPN uses to its advantage. Just for comparison, other VPN service providers might offer more protocols but they don’t allow you to choose therefrom, attributing you one server automatically instead, usually according to the “chosen” server’s location. With GOOSE VPN, however, your online purpose dictates your choice.

By now you probably know that GOOSE’s VPN network isn’t the greatest. In fact, you can almost count the number of countries the company has servers in on your fingers. Other than the 22 servers the company has spread across the U.S., Central and Northern Europe, Egypt and Singapore, the rest of the world is one big empty area. As for connection speeds, it depends on your location, the default speed your ISP provides, how crowded the network is and a whole lot of other external factors. Upon testing, it was pretty clear that, depending on the protocol, the old continent has a clear advantage over the rest of world with fairly acceptable speeds. The U.S. and Singaporean servers usually struggle to get any results at all, especially when using OpenVPN (the slower protocol) instead of the other choice, IKEv2.
Also, it is worth mentioning that during our test only the server in the Netherlands proved to be consistently slower with IKEv2 than with OpenVPN, which is kind of a shocker. Another surprise was the fact that this same server, and later on other servers, showed some differences between download and upload speeds (especially when using IKEv2 too) to the advantage of the latter.
To end with, if you want to use GOOSE VPN for torrenting purposes, you can choose the appropriate servers located in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Norway. Any torrenting activity on other servers is strictly forbidden.

As much as GOOSE VPN underperforms regarding connection speeds, if there’s one thing you can definitely rely on, it’s the company’s strong will for protecting your privacy. When using GOOSE VPN’s services you’ll be constantly wearing a military-grade 256-bit “cape” to hide your internet traffic from unwanted eyes. Furthermore, as we mentioned before, you can not only connect to whichever server you want, but you can also choose your protocol depending on what you want to do online. With this being said, if you prefer a fast and furious connection, you should opt for the lighter IKEv2, while OpenVPN, known for being the perfect balance between encryption and speed, offers you slower but safer browsing. The fact that GOOSE VPN is incorporated in the Netherlands makes that this provider is extra interesting for torrent aficionados who are concerned about protecting their privacy. Last but not least, it is worth mentioning that GOOSE VPN operates under a no-log policy; however, this only applies if you purchase the most complete plan. Still, keep in mind that the company will collect some of your data anyway, especially when signing up for the service.
GOOSE VPN is appropriate both for computers and mobile devices. You can download their VPN client for computers with Windows XP and above, while Mac users can only enjoy the GOOSE VPN benefits on MacOS 10.12 Sierra. As for mobile devices, GOOSE VPN is available for iOS and Android. However, when downloading the client to whichever device you pick from Goose VPN’s website, you are only able to choose whether you want it in English or Dutch. In case you want to opt for a router configuration you can also visit a tab with the required configuration files. If you need help setting up your VPN on any other device there are also step-by-step guides you can follow.
On its website GOOSEVPN.com, the company promises that you can surf online safely and without limits after going through 3 steps and 1 minute of installation that doesn’t require technical knowledge. Truth being told, they keep their promises regarding installation and usability. Everything is easy and very smooth and all it takes is to download, install and run the client. In addition to that, even the less-advanced plan allows you to use the software on any device you wish under the same account.
To understand GOOSE VPN’s pricing policy you must know first that this provider plays differently: you won’t find the usual annual subscriptions with major discounts. Instead, you can only choose between two monthly plans which you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any given time.
Without further ado, the so-called 50GB GOOSE is the slightly limited plan, albeit for a very cost-friendly €2.99 (approximately $3.17) per month. As its name indicates, you can only transfer 50GB data each month, you have no access to P2P servers and the no-log policy also doesn’t apply to you. However, all these frustrating limits are thrown out of the window if you opt for the Unlimited GOOSE plan for $7.41 (€6.99) per month.
You can pay using credit cards and PayPal and, in addition to being able to cancel your subscription any time, you have the right to a 30-day money back guarantee as long as you don’t use more than 100MB data. But the best news is that both plans give your first month of use free of charge to test things out at will.
However, one thing you have to keep in mind is that due to being based in Europe, GOOSE doesn’t convert its prices to USD, therefore the pricing heavily depends on the USD/EUR exchange rate.

Regardless of how great a VPN may be, if its customer service is not adequate, it can tear the entire company’s credibility apart. Fortunately, GOOSE VPN is able to overcome this barrier by offering a few ways to contact its staff. Nonetheless, this is also something that still needs some improvement as there is no live chat, phone or remote desktop assistance.
As for now, you can rely on submitting a ticket 24/7 and leave your complaints or questions on the company’s social media pages such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. There’s also a blog with quite interesting articles, not to mention the detailed setup guides you can access from the download page if you need help with installing the client.
It is impossible not to think about how much GOOSE VPN has achieved in a relatively short period of time and the potential this service has. Truth is that when we look at its pricing, it may be a bit pricey, especially considering its limited range of features and available servers, although it is not very common that a VPN provider offers so many P2P servers early in its existence. Our main conclusion is that GOOSE VPN is a great VPN for beginners, which, quite surprisingly, has some major advantages over other competitors of its class. If the company chooses to continue growing at this rate while still keeping the already promising quality of its services, bonds to its customers, gets rid of its teething troubles and delivers new extra features, GOOSE VPN‘s future can only be brighter.
