A fake TV lights is a crafty little burglar deterrent that projects the impression that the house is occupied, with someone watching the TV, even though no one is actually home. The device produces the same flickering light effects TVs do, but without sound or actual picture. Fake TV lights are fitted with several colored bulbs, and the system switches between them randomly, imitating the constant action on an actual TV screen. The idea behind it is that burglars are known to target abandoned buildings, since they have more time looting the place, and they don’t need to worry about the occupants. But if they see the signs of a turned on TV, they assume that the residents are at home, and move on.
