Every business has its secrets. And so, every entrepreneur needs to remain vigilant because carelessly kept secrets are the easiest to steal. For the most part, if you run an enterprise today, you probably do a large proportion of your work online – so you need extra powerful online protection. AVG Internet Security Business Edition may be the internet security suite you’re looking for, as it’s designed specifically for small businesses. It contains some of the most common antivirus and antimalware features, but also various other tools to protect your computer. Its pricing is reasonable too – ideal for a small business with only a handful of employees.
Upon launching the program, the first thing you’ll notice is that everything is only one click away. A Smart Scan can be initiated with the press of a button, and the other scan types are right beside it. The File Shield scans downloaded files and the Behavior Shield warns if a file behaves suspiciously. Scanning and blocking files can be done before you download them, using the specific tools. With the Enhanced Firewall working in the background, nothing goes in and out without a proper check first, and it also comes with various advanced tools to protect your private documents.
Not only does AVG Internet Security Business Edition offer extended protection against ransomware, but it also thoroughly analyzes them, updating virus definitions in the process. Its CyberCapture feature sends unrecognized files to experts for further analysis. It’s also possible to give remote access to your company’s administrator, so you can focus on other responsibilities. With the Cloud Management Console, a free add-on designed specifically for businesses, any team member can protect not just their own but other coworkers’ devices and multiple endpoints too, as well as monitor threats and schedule group updates, without ever having to step away from their desk.
Upon initiating a Smart Scan, the software launches a quick search for viruses and other malware. It sweeps through the system lightning-fast, finishing in mere seconds. Unfortunately, it doesn’t scan web browsers. Neither does the deep scan, which takes about 40 minutes, but it does thoroughly search files. However, not all files are scanned by default, but it can be recalibrated to do a full scan of the whole system. The tool is set to only scan content-based files since these are typically vulnerable to malware.
Choosing to scan specific files or folders is possible too and works in a similar way to the Smart and deep scans, but by mixing the two. It does a deep scan and also a thorough malware search among the selected files. This would normally take a long time, but here it’s done in seconds. Inserted USBs and DVDs are also scannable, which is a must since entrepreneurs working together often share pen drives. The most convenient scanning options are the Boot-time Scan and the scheduler. The former starts a scan automatically when the computer is switched on. The latter can schedule daily, weekly, or monthly scans, and comes with an exciting feature: the option to create and customize scans. You can name the new scan, set its frequency, which files to scan, and various other options too. All this comes in handy when there’s confidential information stored on the computer.
Someone somewhere will sooner or later be interested in stealing your private business information. To deal with this, the software offers extended protection against hacker attacks. AVG Internet Security Business Edition‘s Password Protection tool secures saved browser passwords, making them virtually inaccessible. Hackers commonly use a PC’s remote desktop feature to get in, but the Remote Access Shield blocks unwanted attempts. Although browsers aren’t included during a scan, the web and email tools take care of them. For example, with Web Shield, downloads are monitored and web attacks blocked. The Email Shield checks emails for dangerous attachments and blocks them if necessary.
The most distinguished tool is the Enhanced Firewall, which has numerous features. Like the internet security suite‘s other tools, its main task is to keep hackers out, by controlling what goes in and out of the system. It checks apps, monitors the network, evaluates what’s going on, and stores logs of the whole process. It also provides advanced protection with three additional tools. While the first prevents the computer from leaking sensitive data, the second sends port scan alerts when somebody’s trying to scan the device through an open port. Finally, the third warns against ARP spoofing, which is the exploitation of another device on the network to gain access to yours. When people work together in a small business, this can pose a significant threat, but you and your fellow team members will feel safer with these tools working hard to protect you in the background.
AVG Internet Security Business Edition is available only for PCs, ranging from Windows 7 to 11, and including all the different editions of Windows 10 such as Pro, Education, Enterprise, and more. While there’s no mobile app, the subscription provides some mobile protection. AVG’s site isn’t very clear about this but it’s not complicated. The purchased license code can be entered into a regular AVG Antivirus Android app, providing you with some of AVG Internet Security Business Edition’s protection.
The program being limited only to Windows systems may seem to be a disadvantage. But at least it runs flawlessly and silently on Windows 10, neither crashing nor slowing the system while scanning. You won’t even notice its presence unless you look for it.
AVG Internet Security Business Edition‘s prices are simple: there is one plan available for one, two, or three years. The cheapest option is $45.59 for one year. There are savings to be had if you choose a longer-term plan, with two years costing $75.22 and three $105.32, translating into $37.61 and $35.11 per year, respectively. However, as there is no discount for multiple devices, the prices start to mount when you have to pay for a full plan for each computer. This can result in handing over some seriously big bucks for those with numerous employees, and there’s no free trial either. Still, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee, allowing you to try all the benefits the subscription has to offer before committing long term.
The company accepts Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, and even PayPal. Annual billing starts once the initial subscription period has finished – for example, if you sign up for the two-year plan, annual billing begins after two years.
It’s likely that you won’t need any help while using AVG Internet Security Business Edition due to the straightforward nature of its user interface. But additional support may come in handy for other matters. AVG operates a 24/7 customer service, and its staff can be reached through most traditional channels, including email and phone. For a faster response, you can also try contacting the company via social media, where it answers in less than an hour. AVG is present in numerous countries worldwide, so there are no language barriers either.
Unfortunately, AVG’s support page on their website isn’t too helpful. Clicking on their Business Support page is simple enough, but there’s no FAQ section, or at least it seems at first to be hidden behind a link. However, clicking on this link redirects you to the AVG Internet Security Business Edition page. Contacting them is possible but choosing this option directs you to the Avast Business Support page – AVG being an Avast subsidiary – where another clicking session starts. The process is a struggle, but hopefully, you’ll never need to do it.
AVG Internet Security Business Edition is a rock-solid internet security suite that works well without the need for much interaction from the user. It also offers numerous tools for real-time protection, most of which focus on preventing hacker attacks. With everything up and running, you and your coworkers can get on with your work feeling secure and safe. It’s not all positive though, as the company’s support page could definitely use an overhaul. Also, prices could be a little friendlier, considering that a regular AVG Internet Security plan offers more for about the same price. That said, with all the focus here on hacker attacks and privacy in general – essential features for managing your business – you may want to give the software your vote of confidence, leaving you able to relax and feel that your business is in good hands.
