When trying to find free online invoicing software, it can often be difficult to find ones that are truly free, with no “catches” that you don’t realize are there until far too late. Too many of these “free” pieces of software turn out to be free trials, or have certain limitations that you will easily exceed as your business grows. Thankfully, we’ve found some online invoicing software that actually lives up to their low-budget advertising.
InvoiceBubble is perhaps the most popular free online invoicing software that is available right now, and is able to create very professional looking invoices for businesses that are just starting out. Of course, you don’t have to be a business to have a need to send invoices out, and InvoiceBubble also works great for any independent contractor, like a freelancer. There is no limitation on the free version of InvoiceBubble, but you can pay a flat fee to get rid of ads if you like, but it doesn’t change functionality at all. This service even allows for PayPal payments for retailers who prefer to take Paypal, or sell through eBay.
Ballpark is another very popular piece of free online invoicing software, and while it does not have a completely free version, it does offer a free 30-day trial. Compared to InvoiceBubble, Ballpark is a far more fully featured piece of invoicing software, but of course, the downside is that it isn’t completely free. Of course, for more high-end power users, Ballpark offers far more features for what remains a reasonable price.
Sage Billing Boss is yet another piece of free online invoicing software that is available, and is actually completely free. However, Billing Boss tends to lack features that many comparable pieces of software have, like InvoiceBubble for example. While Billing Boss is certainly adequate for someone starting off, and many users will end up preferring its interface, most consumers will end up preferring InvoiceBubble, which runs at the same low, low price of free, and offers more features.

I was a Ballpark customer since 2011. When I started using the service, it was great. But they have done basically nothing as far as feature updates the entire time I was a subscriber. They focused on small items like timers, when their exporting features are absolutely dismal. The complete lack of expense tracking, a feature pretty much every other invoice software has at this point is also a glaring issue.
I went to cancel my account today and ran into 2 more issues. To export all data from the time I joined was a complete pain. Luckily I spent a few days doing it, because as soon as hitting ‘cancel’, your account is deleted. Any other subscription service I use for pretty much anything let’s you run out the remaining time on the month you paid for.
There was a time I would have recommended Ballpark, but there is no way I could now. They are basically stuck in 2011 as far as features, while every other invoice software out there buries them feature wise. And, for less money per month in most cases.
If you use Microsoft Excel then there is a great free invoicing tool you can download and use here –

Hope you find it useful 🙂
Hi,
We have used Zoho invoicing which is great. We recently moved to Cantorix Invoicing (www.cantorix.com). Although a new company, the interface seems simple and easy to use. They do have a 30 day free unlimited trial which has no adds and you can upload your logo on invoices etc.
Hi,
This seems to be a great list. Would like to add Invoicera to this list of products. Invoicera is a feature rich software with invoicing, time tracking and and expense management capabilities. It helps you schedule invoices and focus on your work. Besides that it has got a quick and simple user interface that save you a-lot of precious time. It has got multiple languages and payment gateways which makes it a global product.

Hi, the only really great free invoicing and time tracking web app I know is nutcache.com
🙂
I’ve never used any of these myself, but am currently searching for a practical invoicing software. Have you heard of zoho, pay panther or freshbooks? Some of my colleagues recommended them and wanted to get some feedback!
Thanks for your help!
