Riley & Grey is an online wedding website building service that lets soon-to-be married couples design a unique, creative and inspiring invitation for their family members and friends. They can swiftly create a website containing all the necessary information, plus include RSVPs and manage a guest list. In the past, managing such a website would require serious programming knowledge, but Riley & Grey does the heavy lifting for you and presents you with a bunch of pre-made templates where all you have to do is change the lines, write the invitation and upload your personal photos. The end result could make granny cry, and even the smartphone junky can access your wedding website with a smartphone. The service has a strong emphasis on user-friendly interfaces and customizable designs, and you can start editing right away. Riley & Grey even provides a custom domain for you, but the upkeep of your lovely wedding site comes for $35 per month.
Riley & Grey not just aims to make you content with the result of your wedding website building efforts; they want you to have a good time creating and editing it together too. The system presents you with a list of easy-to-use templates that combined together create a fulfilling wedding invitation. It’s easy to recognize which parts can be modified, and you can add your own pictures as well. There is always a homepage that displays your main photo, names and dates. From here you can jump to subtopics like the backstory of the couple, photos of the bridesmaids, and all the major details about the location, party, registry and accommodation. This allows you to inform every invited person in an entertaining way. You are even entitled to change some of the options as well, like phrasing the answers for the RSVP. Not to mention the order of the included pages is entirely up to you, and you are able to rearrange this if you feel so. There are multiple designs with different color variations, so only your imagination and creativity limits the final results.
From the editing interface you can even manage the guest list, which adds an extra layer of comfort and convenience for the organized chaos that is the wedding preparation. You are also entitled to monitor the RSVP replies from here. We also welcome the ability to broaden the available list of pages with photo and video galleries, which are the high notes for every party. Unfortunately the list of extra features ends here for Riley & Grey. They lack such interesting additions like a guestbook, a multi-language interface or the ability to add music clips.
People nowadays use their smartphones just as much as they sit in front of their computers. Thus it’s no real surprise that any noteworthy wedding site provider makes the most out of this rising trend. Riley & Grey went only halfway through this road though. They put great emphasis on mobile friendliness: their site is available through a smartphone’s browser, although it holds little to no meaning, as the editing tool is restricted to desktop computers and tablets only. You are also unable build your website in the form of a smartphone app. On the other hand, the final result of your wedding website can be accessed through a mobile device, and even better, the setup constantly shows you a preview of how the final pages will look like on a mobile screen.
Riley & Grey knows exactly how stressful wedding preparations can be, so they cut right to the chase with the registration. After clicking on “Getting Started” on the main menu, you’ll see to a tab where they ask for your email. By providing it you instantly receive your account and they redirect you to the template setup page. The sites wastes no time when it comes to building wedding websites, although not all people may be overjoyed to have an account forced on them without even knowing that what they do is instantly registering. As for the setup itself, you won’t find it difficult to manage the details. The menus are self-explanatory, and the system even provides some examples that help you grasp the situation. After a brief experiment, you’ll know exactly how to create your dream wedding site.
The service boasts an impressive design library that has something in store for every couple. The templates are bright and colorful, easily evoking a smile on every relative’s or friend’s face. Although the available 41 designs sound awesome at first, in reality there are four to five different patterns and the rest are the same iteration with different colors and backgrounds. The most promising one is called “Signature” , which displays the chosen pages with a unique scrolling effect. The rest of the designs revolve around the idea of a central page with links pointing towards the prominent pages, or just a long narrative list where you can either jump to a specific topic or go through the whole thing vertically. The page modules are the same though, and they won’t change along the designs.
Riley & Grey is very streamlined in terms of pricing. You don’t need to pay upfront just to start editing, and you receive full access to all the available content. However, you only own an account that is temporarily free. The actual payment comes into the picture when you wish to save or submit your finished wedding site. You’ve got two options on your hands. You either commit yourself and have your website run for an undetermined period of time, by paying $35 each month, or decide to save your creation and submit it later.
In the latter case you are only charged for one month of service. Alternatively you are able to book your website’s lifespan for a whole year, which comes for a reduced price that is only $240. Naturally, you can cancel the commitment anytime, although your website disappears with it. Riley & Grey offers no money back guarantee or trial period, but you can earn some free months by recommending the site to others via their referral program.
In case you face technical difficulties, have a request or need a word of advice, the helpdesk of Riley & Grey is available via email all day long. We were glad to discover that you can reach out for help right from the main page, and you don’t need to dig deep into the customer support page to find the right contact form. The company also has an FAQ section that provides some insightful thoughts for newcomers, and a more detailed help page with a long list of topics and tutorials. Riley & Grey runs a Facebook and Twitter page, although the activity is fairly low.
In all fairness, we were satisfied with what Riley & Grey brings to the table. Their core offer is very strong. The building tool is not only user-friendly, but also allows deep customization possibilities for creative minds. There is a wide variety of designs that feel and look different, and you can personalize them even further with your photos. The pages and topics are rearrangable and expandable with photo and video galleries. Unfortunately there are no outstanding extra features, and the service quite aggressively pulls you in, presenting an account after the slightest interest. Still, the lowest score goes to their pricing strategy. In case you wish to reserve or submit your work, you need to pay at least $35 in advance. Also, the upkeep for the service is another $35 each month, which is a tad bit expensive.
